Today was all about soldering. You can see the class presentation here.
The goal today was for everyone to get a good feel for using a soldering iron, understanding how to work safely, and creating good, solid connections. Safety was the primary concern.
Safety Considerations include:
- No hair or loose clothing around the irons
- Do not reach across an iron
- ALWAYS assume an iron is HOT
- Do not hold the iron against electrical components for more than 2-3 seconds to prevent damange
- Wear eye protection
I am happy to report that no students were burned in the making of this blog post. All students were able to create solid wire connections and cover those connections using heat shrink.
In addition, the mircocontrollers arrived! Students were pulled out two-by-two to solder the header pins on to their microcontrollers with myself and Andrew. When students were not soldering they were working on the Project Proposal Document and shaping their thoughts on their projects.
